Instructions for Drivers of Loading Machines

All driving with loading machines in the wood yard must be carried out in a safe and correct manner. 

These instructions apply to loading machines for handling bark, moth and knot pulp at the wood yard and the Boiler house. 

The drivers of the loading machines must familiarise themselves with the instructions for the machine to be used, and they are responsible for ensuring that the instructions are complied with. 

Check before driving: 

  1. That the machine is in a regulatory condition.
  2. That it is labelled in accordance with regulations.
  3. That it is equipped with driver protection (seat belts, etc.).
  4. That the brakes, lights, horn and turn signals are in order.
  5. That the oil, water and air pressure levels in the wheels are correct.
  6. That the steering mechanism is in order.
  7. That the hydraulic lifting mechanism is in order.
  8. That you are familiar with the manoeuvring organs/actuators. 
  9. That fire-extinguishing equipment is in order.

During driving: 

  1. Follow current driving rules, speed regulations and internal instructions. a) Ensure that there are no people near the machine's working area when loading and unloading. 
    b) Use caution when driving near electrical lines. 
  1. Standing on the machine while driving is not permitted. Exceptions may be made during training, driving no faster than walking speed.
  2. Always check around the machine before driving. Make sure you have a good view in the direction you are driving.
  3. Avoid overfilling the machine.
  4. Keep your load as low as possible.
  5. Slow down and, if necessary, stop at doors, corners, exits, etc.
  6. Use the warning horn when necessary.
  7. Never overload a machine. Check the working load limit so that you know how the size of the load and its centre of gravity reduce the machine's capacity. For frame-controlled machines, oscillation will also reduce stability. 
  8. Always avoid rapid stopping, starting or turning as the load can fall off or the machine can tip over.
  9. Drive extra carefully when the road is wet, icy or otherwise slippery.
  10. After the drive, the engine must idle for approx. 1-2 min before it is stopped to ensure lubrication for the turbo as well as heat compensation. Therefore, do not rush the engine immediately before switching it off.

When stopping or parking: 

  1. Lower the equipment onto the ground.
  2. Use the parking brake.
  3. Place the controls in the neutral position.
  4. Switch off the engine.
  5. Place blocks under the wheels when parking in a slope.
  6. Be aware that frame-controlled machines can represent a crushing hazard.
  7. Look for leaks etc.

  8. When using the wheel loader for loading bark/knot pulp, the machine must be cleaned after use. This means removing remnants of bark and knot pulp from the machine. Failure to comply will lead to exclusion from the industrial area.
