Case study: Borregaard biopolymers increase tile strength

Borregaard has run different tests demonstrating the advantages of using BioKeram and our other biopolymers for tile manufacturing. These tests have been carried out both at our in-house ceramic lab and at external institutes.

These studies show that:

• Our additives increase the green and dry Modulus of Rupture (MOR) in all formulations tested.
• The increase in MOR is almost linear with dosage.
• Borregaard's lignin-based biopolymers outperform other lignin products, particularly related to the rheology effect.
• Some biopolymers significantly increase the viscosity of the slurry and should be avoided. Only specifically formulated Borregaard biopolymers prevent this increase.
