Customer reference: Improving road stabilisation with Dustex
You can learn about a road stabilisation study that was initiated in Norway in 2001, and see how roads stabilised with Dustex® still performed after fifteen years!
Comments from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) when concluding the study include:
“It does not have the environmental disadvantages that bitumen emulsion has.”
“For NPRA, there should be an argument that the binding agent is environmentally friendly and harmless.”
In 2001, the county councils in Møre og Romsdal, Norway, entered a gravel road programme to raise the standard of its county roads. The goal was to lay an asphalt surface on all unpaved roads, thus improving the infrastructure and everyday lives of road users.
Due to a poor road base, several stretches on the county roads had to be rehabilitated and stabilised before asphalting. Between 2002 and 2006, the NPRA used Dustex for the stabilisation of 17 km of low-volume roads.
11-15 years after stabilisation these roads had maintained their load-bearing capacity, and rut depth development was consistent with, or better than what is stipulated by the Norwegian standard (N2001).
A large number of roads in Scandinavia are stabilised with Dustex every year. Between 2016 and 2018, almost 100 km of road were stabilised in Norway only.
