LCA: SoftAcid Tan V vs formic acid
Borregaard has engaged an independent third party to conduct a cradle to gate Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) on SoftAcid® Tan V, as well as an environmental competitive comparison with pure formic acid. SoftAcid Tan V surfaced as the overall most sustainable choice.
The study analyses the environmental impacts of the products, from raw materials to finished products, and monitors how environmental improvement in the value chain can reduce this impact.
Summary
SoftAcid Tan V consists of lignosulfonic acid and formic acid and is formulated for use in leather tanning.
NORSUS, one of Europe's leading research institutes for LCA and other environmental impact analyses, conducted this LCA study for SoftAcid Tan V and pure formic acid in 2019. The LCA includes seven impact categories, and SoftAcid Tan V has a lower impact than pure formic acid in all categories. Overall, SoftAcid Tan V is the most sustainable choice of the two products, with lower CO2 emissions and consumption of fossil fuels.
By replacing formic acid with SoftAcid Tan V you reduce your CO2 emissions by 38%.
