No added Formaldehyde resin additives

NAF (no added formaldehyde) and ULEF (ultra-low-emitting formaldehyde) products with associated certifications are becoming increasingly popular in the market. Borregaard's sustainable biopolymers are compatible and complementary with many NAF systems and can be used to formulate ULEF resins, which meet regulatory requirements in many resin resin applications, including:

  • Particleboard
  • Fibreglass based products
  • Plywood
  • Grinding media
  • Oriented Strand Board (OSB)
  • pMDI isocyanate-based adhesives
  • High Density Fibreboard
  • Soy-based binder systems
  • Formaldehyde-based binder systems, such as:
    • Urea formaldehyde (UF)
    • Melamine urea formaldehyde (MUF)
    • Phenol formaldehyde (PF)

Borregaard's additives are viable alternative adhesive formulants. Different grades are available with varying concentrations of cross-linkable functionality. This functionality includes aromatic groups, carboxyl groups and higher aldehydes. Substituting a portion of classic resin systems with our lignin-based products can reduce emissions. Borregaard biopolymers can be used in all types of water-based adhesive systems, including those based on protein, sugar and pMDI.

Key benefits:

  • Savings in operational expenses
  • Increased performance
  • Improved sustainability
  • Safe to handle
  • Less exposure to formaldehyde for workers
  • Easy to dissolve and disperse
