Crystal growth modifier
Borregaard offers lignin-based biopolymers that can be used to control your crystal growth challenges in a variety of systems and environments including:
In many processes the size and shape of crystals change with time and external factors. Modifying crystal growth processes using additives is a well-established approach to solving problems in many of these processes. The surface active properties of our lignin-based biopolymers cause interactions with the surfaces of growing crystals. Different interactions with different surfaces alter the growth rate and habitat of the crystals. The complexing properties of Borregaard’s products will in many cases favour a dissolution-precipitation mechanism over a solid state mechanism.
This lab demonstration shows how one of our lignin biopolymers retards and modifies crystal growth.
